a Friend of mine is looking at buying this CJ.
I'm not very familiar with the CJs, anyone have any suggestions on what to look for?
any comments on this one?

Thanks!

Main thing would be frame/body rot around body mounts and shackle mounts, also cracked frame around the steering box, oil pressure after warming it up good if the gauges even still work. That's the things that come to mind at the moment.

8k will buy a nice TJ...

But look at the steering gear box area of the frame for cracks, stripped nutsets on the skid, rust in the rockers, rust under the roll bar mounts, rusted body mount channel, cracked sheet metal at the spare tire mount, wiring issues under the dash, are there one piece axle shafts in the rear, and look at the fluids.

XJ drives and rides better.

If it can't be fixed with a bigger hammer, it must be an electrical problem

Yeah but admit it, the cool factor in a cj is way higher than a tj.
I love CJ's and I have had a bunch of them but I drive an LJ by choice.

I would take a TJ over a CJ as well. The retro of the CJ is undeniably cool, but the TJ or LJ are much easier to drive.

Cj's aren't bad drivers if setup right, but out of the box yes a tj/lj does drive better.

They can be made to ride and drive better , but the wranglers already have that. Still love the CJ but for an old man like me its a happy memory.
