MJ alternator
The alternator in my Comanche has taken a dump. I think it is only an 85 amp. What is the highest amperage that will bolt in? What was it originally in? I would like to upgrade to support a winch and more lighting

Usually it is a 60 ish amp that came in the late 80s jeeps. I put a GM single wire 160'in my CJ so I'd guess you could do the same but the winch shouldn't really get affected directly. The winch runs off the battery and the alternator just recharges it. If you are running the battery down on winching, you need a better quality battery first. And lights like leds run on such low power that your electric system probably shouldn't notice the draw.

Found out why it died. Excess ventilation.
Looks like I have some bolt trimming to do before installing the new one.

Should have enough clearance now. Ground about 3/8" off bolt

Did you check your motor mounts? Seems like an awful lot of movement.

I will when it stops raining and the sun comes back out. They are a few years old but I replaced them after getting the truck.

I swapped a zj alternator from a 5.2 limited in my previous xj. bolt in and splice the plug for it and it was done. some say grinding is required on the aluminum bracket. my 2001 didn't need it. full 1/8" gap. i believe it was a 120 amp.
