Field & Forest Season Opener

Great weekend up at my favorite spot in NH. Rolled out Friday morning as soon as I could as the forecast for Saturday/Sunday was not too hot and wanted to get in as much wheelin in as possible before the rain hit.

Got up there around 10 am and met up with Nick [member=135]Tonellin[/member], his buddy Chris in a JKU & Mike [member=278]bty34[/member]. Got camp setup and a kid in a CJ buggy asked to join as we were getting a game plan together.

Decided on hitting Lake Trail, as with the few times I?ve wheeled with Nick & Chris up here, it?s the one black trail they hadn?t yet done. It?s a good one, but the exit had been getting brutal over the years. We later found out one of the trees that made the somewhat easier side doable, had been removed to keep the trail rated as a black.

I ended up busting the lock on my drivers hub and just 3 wheeled the rest of the trail. Impressed me even so and didn?t need much assistance besides a tough spot at the end.

After Lake Trail I ended up parking the rig as I didn?t want to push my luck. My other buddy was coming up the next morning and had parts to fix.

So we carried on and hit a couple more blues & blacks. All three rigs made quick work of those, but before finishing up for the day Mike had snagged a brake line and was weeping fluid. Threw some vise grips on and got out of the woods for the day.

After we were back at camp, while I was looking over my hub, Nick?s friend that was riding along came over and we noticed the internals were all good, just the lock was busted so he told me about this ?beer can? trick. Cut about an inch off the bottom of a can and folded it in. Took the cap off the hub and it was the perfect diameter and was enough depth to keep pressure on the spring and engage the splines. It worked for the rest of the weekend and still going.

Straight up genius trail fix

Day 2 my buddy showed up first thing in the am and we split up from Nick, Mike & Chris as we wanted to run a red trail before the forecasted rain rolled in.

Now this was the first time I?ve been on this trail with my rig, or any rig I?ve owned, as it was more extreme than any previous rig I?ve had could handle.

Made it through in a few hours, right as the rain rolled in, with just a few rigs of the winch as some of the holes were just too much or warranted sticky tires. The exit we knew would be a winch as it gives even full on buggies a challenge and usually need the dryest of days to make it without assistance.

All in all, super impressed with this rig. It just goes.

As usual, not many pics of me... but these are what I got of my buddy.

Ended up hitting an easier black after watching another group behind us get through but my rig started to overheat bad so we made our way out.

Hung at camp and made dinner then we grouped u with the guys behind us on the red trail for some night wheeling. I was on foot as I didn?t care to look into the overheating issues right then and already had a solid 2 days of wheeling and the rig had been put through the paces.

So just the last bit of that group.

Nick, thanks for showing us around, we had a blast. The group worked out great and we covered some good stuff. The place definitely has some serious trails. I'd recommend making the trip if you've been thinking about it. I knew I didn't take many pictures, but I didn't realize it was this few.

It's rare that a picture does the steepness of the trail any justice , but this one does  😱

And the beer can trick is genius.

Awesome weekend wheeling...managed to grab a few good videos since I just learned my phone can shoot 60 fps

Awesome to meet another JO member - Mike and his wife Megan were great company and I couldnt believe how well Mike's rig climbed with f/r antirock and mid arm.

That place looks amazing!  I wish I was headed there this year

Next year buddy! My local club will probably rent the place out again, so we could get some JO guys in on it as well, if anyone is interested.
