Jerry Rig

Suzy and I got out last April to Sheeps Bridge or Sheeps crossing depending on who you ask.  It?s ~23 miles of bumpy fire road one way.  We took the Jerry Rig and got a little carried away on the way there.  It ties so nice with the mods I?ve done that 40+ on fire roads is pretty smooth.
Unfortunately we got a little rambunctious towards the end of the trail and tested the tire to wheel well clearances.  The tire won and also wiped out part of the cabinet.  Oh well it was beautiful out there and the second time we?ve towed the Jerry Rig out there, probably not the last!

We came in on a Friday afternoon and were able to score a sweet spot right along the river.  Luckily I can back up a trailer half decent.

If you are a keen observer in one of the first posts I added a picture of the wheel well to tire clearance problem, it would rub on occasion but it was a smooth surface so I wasn?t too worried.  But we proper fucked it up on that Sheeps Bridge run!  Like broke it in half, fucked it up!  Apparently the wheel wells are ?structural? and when the tent was erect there was such a large gap that the door wouldn?t latch!
So not only did I need to redo the wheel well and rebuild the cabinet I also needed to reinforce the structure.
The door side was the most difficult to deal with because I had to use ratchet straps, floor jacks, framing squares, straight edges etc.. to hold it together while removing more material and then figuring out how to rebuild the dang thing.
The first step was tear down the flip over cabinet that houses the stove, sink and heater assembly.  Then I cut out the original sheet vinyl flooring, added self tapping pan head screws through the 1/2? particle board subfloor at 8? intervals to every crossmember I could reach.
I used 1/8?x 1.5? angle for the exterior arch of the wheel well and extended that all the way to the front of the trailer to reinforce the bottom of the doorway and then used 1/8?x 2? angle iron to sandwich the bottom side/ interior of the side panels that are 1.5? wide to basically make a C channel in that area.  I them cut away the floor as far as I could to make room for the new 16g tubs that I formed using 4 pieces of steel and glued all that together with the outer metal and the frame.
It?s really solid and there is a lot more room for rubbers now!
Original wheel well and new tubbed wheel well as well as the exterior arch/ rock rail.
Sorry for the shoddy pictures I was doing all this in my side yard with my work trailer in the way.

With the door side done I needed to duplicate what I had done on the other side.
If you notice in the wheel tub picture you can see I needed to drill new exhaust holes for the heater to move that rearward.  I also rebuilt the lower section of the cabinet and made the pantry door under the stove larger and also made the drawer quite a bit larger to utilize some of the dead space in the cabinet.  I also replaced the worthless cabinet next to the door with a cradle to accept a 5 gallon cassette type toilet so Suzy felt more at home.  Added a 2 gallon pressurized shower under the sink so she can wash her hair while camping (worked great to wash out the toilet too).  Replaced the flooring with new vinyl plank, added another foam thingy under the mattress and we took it out to our Fun Days event fundraiser for our club.
