First time caller long time listener.

Anybody here know anything about Duramax's?  First time owner knowing NOTHING about them, trying to make 4000 horsepower with a few bolt ons.

Some things to look/lookout for?  First mods?  Important mods?  Things NOT to do?  Etc.

I will be DD'ing this and pulling a small camper.

Im seeing PPE Boost valve, Turbo horn, exhaust duh.

Poser pic included.

First question is, what year is it? I don't know much, but I do know the 06/07 duramax is the most sought after and reliable in this body style.

Of the big three diesels, it's the one I hated changing the oil in the least... But that's all I've really got for you.

Tie rod ends are weak, there are easy upgrades.  Injectors are known issue for your model.  If 4x4 look into a pump rub kit for transfercase.  A while back I was searching for a clean low mileage LBZ and read up on a lot of the common issues.  Trans is good for mild build but be prepared to at least do some type of shift kit if doing more.

So, I figured out changing a starter brings the suck...  3 hours from home this weekend and the starter quite literally fell out.  The bottom bolt was missing and the top ear with a bolt in it was cracked.  That missing bolt is about impossible to get to, but we ran a bolt back through it and its starting and such..  Sounds much better bolted in!

I have installed tow mirrors(used) $50, weathertech floormats(used)$60, used driveshaft($150) and all I needed was 1 yoke since my was boogered up, new carrier bearing.  I have new headlights and a PPE boost valve on the way.  Oh we took a yoga ball to the drivers fender trying to get the dent popped out...

Only got about 9 miles to the gallon pulling a 22 foot camper.  Feel like that should be a lot better.

The best I have ever gotten towing a camper is 15 in the Excursion normally 8-12. The RV is the same 7-12 if I stay out of the skinny pedal and no wind  If I don't it 6-8.

That isn?t promising.  I have a buddy that says he gets 16-18 pulling a trailer in his Cummins.

Here is a before pic of the bed before the yoga ball treatment

Maybe 16 pulling a regular trailer, I'd also make sure that's actually the hand calculated numbers lol.  Camper is a massive drag behind the truck.  I got 7 to 8 mpg towing my 28ft bunk house (36 total feet) with 6.4 hemi,  and closer to 12 with current 04 5.9 Cummins.  Empty mine gets 15 or 16 all the time.  I'm happy with that

Yeah that was hand calculated there is no fancy thinger that tell you fuel economy.  🙁  Our camper is only a 22 footer but it is also stick and tin.

Got some new headlight housings.  Installed the PPE boost valve and that is a waste of money.

Yeah!  Ill get a picture.  Pretty rad.

I guess I should mention I got my parking lots and horn back.  For whatever reason this truck is missing a severe amount of fuses and relays.  AC, rear parking lights, and washer squirter still don't work.  Has to do something with a fuse or relay - has to.

The big plastic 6.6 duramax thing is is gone.

Same story, newer truck.  Bought a 05 LLY today from the auction.  It is supposed to be here Wednesday.  The only thing I know is that the injectors on these are outside the valve covers so those are an easier change.  Got all the front end parts on order.  Would like to lower it and run less bling wheels.  Think it has exhaust already.

Anybody know any super cool mods for these LLY trucks?

Be on the lookout for a nice set of H2 wheels for me please!?

Looks like you better hustle to get ready for Stone Mountain sucker!

Meh, no big deal, as long as the rest of the truck isn?t garbage.  Screwed myself out of a Jeep - got way too much in this.  Ugh.  You know what that means...

But yeah we spend 3 days in fall creek falls before we hit Stone Mountain.
