Not a jeep trip? maybe? 1200 +miles in the west

Well use it or lose it, I was told for vacation so time for another trip out west. Yes, Covid will stop us from seeing some stuff but hopefully, it will still be epic. I do have a cabin on the rim for the grand canyon and I will spare you the rest of the reservations as this is an 11-day trip.

This time next week I will be in Santa Fe. We have dropped a lot of New Mexico out of the trip. Farmington canceled our room on us. Hopefully, the free states will be nice.

Seriously?! Why did they cancel the room? I am not doing any major trips until this mess is done...

closing to deep clean and said they were only leasing the first floor to doctors going to the res. That was the Hampton inn so we are going to push from Taos straight to Monument Valley.
so
2 nights Santa Fe
1 night Taos
2 nights Monument Valley
2 nights Sedona
2 nights Grand Canyon
1 night Gallup ( petrified forest)
1 night ABQ for flight home next day

Day one and two Santa Fe
We tried to visit the musical highway on rt66 in albuquerque. We drove it a few times and could not find the rumble strips. The next.day we went to Bandalier National Park, downtown Santa Fe which was a bust. Saw the oldest church in America and the oldest house in Santa Fe. Then we headed out to some petroglyphs right outside of town. We where up two hrs before the sunrise and didn't get.back in till dark. there was some more but you would have to be on FB to.get the good pics .

Those who say you can't travel because some damn political BS are wrong. Hotels are glad to have us and local restaurants are super happy seeing how there is only take out. Locals have given us some of the best travel advice in our journeys.  So on to the pics seeing that is why you clicked this thread.

Day three cave tour and entry into taos
The cave tour is neat but a little long winded there is only one open to the public. The is no photos allowed so I am linking a site. We where in windows of the earth. There was about three hours of other beforehand that was not really me but this was the wife's thing. From there we came into taos at dark and it still is mostly closes so did not see much.

Did y'all make it down to the bottom of the canyon and the natural hot tub? Awesome shots , glad y'all are enjoying yourselves.

Day four the long wrong road from Taos
Well after a ok nights sleep in Taos at a sub par hilton property we struck out for monument valley. We had a nice visit to an old church and town center that looked like it was straight from old mexico. We decided that we had seen enough of town the night before as it is shut down. We came thru the Rio grande recreation area on our way to Aztec national monument. The Weather was cold and rainy so no hot springs were looked for plus we had a long haul to Utah to hit Gouldings lodge .

As we left Aztec as it was getting dark we hit a side road to get the closest we could to shiprock .As we pulled out of shiprock we must have upset the Navajo gods. Remember that cold rain? Bam let's runs the last 100 miles thru a snow storm. Thank goodness for AWD.

I will say that we took 64 from Taos to the turn for monument valley and it was a nice two lane backcountry road that had awesome scenery.I was expecting highway so it was great

Day five monument valley.
The Navajo nation is closed so we couldn't do the loop. So we tried going left and the road was closed to due a wreck. The truck you see in the pics was not the wreck but he had been there all night and is still there. So we made a large loop of 163 to 64 to 191 back to 163. We hit  the Moki dugway and the valley below was completely covered in fog.lastly is a shot of the Goulding Lodge

Day 7 and 8 1500 miles to the Grand canyon

Spent day seven doing wifey stuff in Sedona going to.vortexs and crystal shops. We got in some good hiking and views. Called it an early day and watched a little of the meteor shower.  Day eight was a drive to the grand canyon. A couple quick shots as it was freezing. We are staying in the park ,60.ft.from the rim. Tommorow will be a long day of trying to get in as much as we can with starting temps of 9 degrees.
