As a new member, I want to share with y?all one of my current projects, a ?97 TJ on tons.
A little backstory on me which has lead me to this point:
As a lifelong Jeeper, I decided to merge my passion with a career in 2014; I started Tobacco Road 4 Wheel Drive, LLC. To do so, I traded my 08 JK for a Cummins tow pig. Long story short, I haven?t had a dedicated wheeler since. (My wife and I have LJs, and have no intention of ever being jeepless)
I had 2 TJs ready for sale, so I decided that whichever one sold last i would keep and build.
The loser or winner depending on how you look at it. The only plans I had for the build were that I wanted to showcase quality parts that I sell, from American companies.
I should note, I do have a full time job outside of Tobacco Road. But, if any of you are in need of parts, I can offer a forum discount for anything you need! Just send me a message and I?ll do my best to get you a price and a lead time. Also, please don?t judge me by my website store, I?m not very tech savvy, but I have a close friend that got the page set up as is. It still has a long way to go, but that?s in process as well.
Back to regularly scheduled programming...
This was going to be a complete build from top to bottom so I started tear down and sold off parts I wasn?t going to use. Got it down to a bare tub and frame and started trussing a pair of 99-04 super duty axles. Pulled a 6.0 LQ9 from an Escalade EXT, got a turbo 400 from a friend, and put in an order with advance adapters for an atlas.
Started with a Motobilt back half kit and Motobilt trusses, and welded the tubes to the diff first. I should say that I?m not the best welder in the world, my business is selling parts not making them. Although I?ve noticed a considerable improvement over the last few months since starting this project. My brother in law is a much better welder than I am, and I?ve gotten a lot of pointers from him as well as from the local fab shop that typically does any welding work that I need.
I also ordered some trailworthy fab DD bead locks and 39.5 pit bull rockers( while they were half off)
That brings me to the cage...
Still got a few tubes to finish on the cage, and then get drivetrain in and mock up seat brackets/tabs. I want to get drivetrain in first, so that if I have to cut some of the floor out, I won?t have to do it with seat tubes in the way.
