You Gobi Girl build

Now that you say it....the stock flare chop mod has been considered.  Larger tires are not in the short to mid term plan.  We can't say NEVER.  😀  Chopped flares have a neater look if done properly.  And they're self healing.  🙂  Step one is convincing Jenn this are good idea.  Step two is convincing myself it's ok to chop on a new vehicle.  :-X

Maybe if you convince yourself first, convincing Jenn would be easier.

Or, forgiveness easier than permission. 🙂

Razor knife and patience...
That's how I did mine.
Start off small.
Take some 1" masking tape and follow the bottom of the flare, cut at the other side of the tape. It's faster than measuring and gives a nice straight line to follow.

Good advice guys.  Do you have pix of the process and result? Odds of it are far better on the Rhinosaur than the Gobi.  At least at first.  Thanks guys!

I posted some in my build. It was early February 2016... I took an inch off mine as they were rubbing in the whoops at Koh.

Then another thing happened.

Jenn wanted extra lighting for nighttime exploration. We had the lights hanging around the shop for a while. She bought the brackets and wiring kit on Amazin. The wiring kit made an easy install. There were zero instructions, but the relay had short power leads, so I mounted it near the battery and worked my way back to the switch. Speaking of switch, I thought she wanted one for the factory bank. Instead she opted for a larger one. I guess she liked the logo better. Anyway, dash mount it is. Leads for the lights ran perfectly under the cowl panel. Flexie assisted as well.  8)

The mostly finished product. Suits it to a T right?  [laugh]   Sure, the swingaway had a latch system. Some of the hardware needed replacement. Jenn wanted a simpler operating mechanism anyway. So here it are.  😀

Safety first! Ok, you're right. Safety is a close second. After the swing away carrier a cyclops brake light mount was needed. Jenn maished an Amazin button. The magic happened.

The bracket is a quality item.  Incremental adjustment allows for larger tires. The only criticism I have is I wish they had included a cleaner wiring install method. The plan is revisit with loom. A loop off a mounting bolt would be desirable as well.  8)

Can a JK be hurricane proofed? When you expect 189 mph winds, every aerodynamic advantage counts! Queue the fender flair swap on the Gobi Girl.

Jenn is a happy girl.

** note: the swap had nothing to do with the hurricane other than being a great shop day.
