Jeepers Keepers 2.0 - Skip to page 10

Dear friends,

While yes, I?ve done it a bunch of times but I?m willing to admit I?ve never done it correctly...

Getting ready to cut the hood.  I think I have 3.25? at the back and 2.5ish at the front.  Should I just run a piece of string from one point to the other and cut along that line?  I?ve always used a tool like a sharpie with a coat hanger taped to it but I always hack it..

Yours truely,

Derek

Perfect straight line.

So what does the block do for me exactly?  Absolutely not following.  You saw the part where I am not cutting the same amount out of the hood right?  I need like 3.25" in the back and like 2.5ish" in the front.  I fear that you are stating the wood block slides across the bottom of the hood.

I made a little jig out of some scrap strips and just slid it along the edge of the hood with a sharpie touching the top of the metal.  It worked pretty good and the only hiccup was from the odd hood dip from a cj hood.

I missed the tapered part. Snap a line.

You're cutting 3.25" off the back and 2.5" off the front?  A thought...  Raise the front of the hood .75" and run a sharpie and a block of the right height along the top of the fender.  If it's the other way around, raise the rear instead.

Are you going to leave a length on there (like 1/2") to bend a lip into it to stiffen things up?  Have fun with it!

So the line thing didnt work because it didnt follow the same contour..  Just doing it old school.  Cut across the crease or whatever and will flap wheel it down - takes TIME but should be the best result.

First pass and then had to come back to "work",  I'll go back out for another smoke break soon!

Have no fear, it looks chopped but there is a lot that needs cut out of the front for it to come down.
