My new to me Honda

Considering we've many days this month not reaching literal January high temps, this seems appropriate.

Another thing happened today. Proper adventures require storage. An Apache case seems to fit the bill! The stock grab handle/ rack has existing holes. Gee, this is easy. Four bolts, washers, and lock nuts later....

....oh, and I rode to the gym. Took the scenic route home too. šŸ˜

Bright orange for increased visibility.

Had really hoped we could make the dinner meeting with @green50gt and @G Beasley. Unfortunately Jennifer worked until almost 4. Oh well, hopefully next time. But why is this in a Honda thread?

We certainly can't waste a day so beautiful. Yeah, we got in a couple hours seat time. We made a quick run to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

After seeding the lawn, it seemed a good day to ride. Mid 50s when I departed, and time for them to fall. Chilly, but pretty!

I rode through Mortimer again. The last time we rode 2 up through there, a power line came whipping to the ground only a couple feet to our left. It was a really close call. The main reason to ride through again as opposed to going elsewhere, was to discover the cause. Well, turns out it was another close call! A tree had fallen only seconds after we passed. We had gone maybe 100 yards at that point.

Wilson's Creek is spectacular!

Various rescue squads were swift water training.

This pic was taken at the tree's location. We were roughly about the location of the parked vehicles when it came down. Crazy close in chronologic terms..

It was getting quite chilly before returning home. Warmth is welcome!

Overnight gallivant complete, the evening had free time. A short gym hour, dinner....what else is there? Oh yeah, a short ride! A beautiful sunset was integrated into the deal. Pictar does it no justice.

I took @AeroBoost advice. It was actually sprinkling a tiny bit as I departed. Fortunately it was short lived as well as isolated. The threat loomed overhead a couple times but never materialized. The ride took me over a small local mountain range. Going down the other side leads into a small town. Heading west through town, turning north on a state highway leads back home for a nice loop. Unfortunately some of the best scenery from atop the mountains is missing here - the road simply lacks a safe stopping point for pictars.

I happen to know from a former work project this bottom is known to have been an ancient camp. The camp predates our conceived notions of "native Americans". It's something to the tune of 3 - 4 thousand years old, if memory serves. Modern humans have setup camp there too, nice choice.

Just after I snapped this shot, a guy in a Yota pickup pulled out of a nearby intersection. He drove by slowly, giving a thumbs up as if making sure I was "good". Probably another rider. Either way, classy move!

This morning there was a FakeButt post in a local group recruiting riders for a veteran's funeral procession. I didn't know the guy personally, but I knew enough. I peeled out after the procession.

Now it's lunch time.

The ride continued. After departing Lenoir, I headed toward Collettsville.

I then turned up Maple Springs Ch Rd. There was a mountain bike race in progress. They were all cool about me weaving through, I returned the same respect. Saw a cool rattler in the road. A guy in a pickup ran over it to kill it. Probably for the best, as I guided about a half dozen bike riders around it as the pix were being made. Someone bitten was a high likelihood since it basically looked like a stick in the road at a distance, just like the other thousand out there.

At the intersection, a left turn took me past Mortimer Campground toward Pinola Rd. Pineola is another lengthy gravel section in the forest. It comes out near Jonas Ridge. There's a store at the mountain top, the perfect place for a break. The temps were naturally cooler up there. The breeze was stirring but not enough to make it uncomfortable. It was a nice spot!

The store is located on Hwy 181. This is a popular bike road, one of those curvy treks with great asphalt. I rode down rather than up. Then it was a couple hour loop segment back home. The weather morphed from overcast with a little sprinkle into a truly beautiful day. Great ride, 100% recommend.
