Jeffro06's 2006 Rubicon

It's too dangerous to be out on the roads today, so my Jeep will have to wait.

Headed to Wisconsin, where it's warmer, this morning. Need to figure out a parts list and put in an order. I'm also hopeful that we'll actually do something productive to the Rubi.

Happy for you that there's some progress. What's the current thought on timeline?
I don't really know, but I'm hoping March / April. It all depends on how often I can get there. One day a week spreads things out. It's only been 12 working days, thus far.

We didn't have the needed buschings to install the engine yesterday, and no place local had them in stock, otherwise we'd be a bit further along. This is also why we went through everything and ordered a bunch of parts.

I'm feeling better about things, for sure.

While a 3.6L JL engine was an option, I opted to just get my Jeep back....lol.

This morning Kevin attached the steering box and exhaust hangers, that we painted yesterday.

The only big $$ items left to buy are rear corner / flares and a new belly skid.

I believe I'm currently sitting at 7 grand in parts, some of which were a want, not a need.

We did a bit more:

Some other parts got prepped and painted as well, but I failed to take pics.

We got screwed on an exhaust clamp. It said 2.5 inches on the box, it was 3 inches. Turns out a 2.5" sticker was applied over the 3" sticker....wth?

The bumper was put on, temporarily....it made me feel better to see it on...lol.

Next week we'll get the anti-rock installed, finish the exhaust, and start prepping the front axle for installation.

I'm hoping to be driving this by April.....🤞

Little things, aren't always easy things.

Driveshaft and axle shaft ujoint replacement was on the list today. They put up a fight, especially the axle joint, which blew in Moab.

The other side wasn't much better...lol.

The rear driveshaft is done.

We ran out of time to finish the rest. All the old joints are off and the shafts have been wire brushed.

Before the ujoint fight, the front bumper was removed, and Anti-rock was installed. The front bumper returned to its rightful spot and the steering box skid was installed.

Good thing the state of Illinois just sent me replacement plates.....they'll add to the "newness"...lol.

The rear sway bar links were refurbished, with new bushings pressed into place. The links were then hung on the frame.

The end links were put on the Anti-rock too...but I failed to take a pic.

We only put in 6 hours today, as Kevin had a birthday dinner to attend.

Without Kevin's 50 ton press, we never would have won the fight against the ujoints. Note to self, replace ujoints more often...lol. I blame Kevin, afterall, he's the one who moved from Ottawa..45 minutes away, to Indiana..4 hours away. Moving to Wisconsin..1.25 hours away most certainly means better routine maintenance will be had.

Next up, cleaning up the D44's, welding on some new brackets, and applying some POR15.

We did sort out my new Savvy aluminum control arms, to make sure all was accounted for. The aluminum rods will be getting anodized.

Took advantage of the nice weather and headed to the shop. There was a lot of wire brush work to get done, and doing outside was the way to go.

I spent at least 3 hours on these axles.

They definitely looked better after some grinding and a pressure wash. The front gets new mounting brackets.

Which Kevin's fab guy worked on today.

I did the new rubber bushings and bump stops today. Here's the new Ant-rock links as well.

We got the correct length bolts for the motor mount, so I swapped them out.

I also install the correct steering box bolt....ah, the little things...lol.

Weather's gonna turn cold again, so getting the axles done today was very welcomed...despite it screwing up my Friday "schedule"....lol.

Made it to Kevin's today.

He's got another project going on:

The YJ is going on the TJ frame, with a Cummins 2.8 powertrain.

That 3.6 will be set aside, in case my 4.0 blows up someday...lol.

I cleaned the rest of my parts, so they're all ready for paint. We got all the u-joints installed, driveshaft and axles.

We won't paint until we have the rear axle regeared....which we both hope is soon.

Kevin will be gone, for business next weekend, so it'll be two weeks before I get back to Rubi. By then every part we need will be there, to get a rolling chassis. My control arms are getting dropped of to be anodized this week.

A couple of more visits and we should be moving on to the body.

For now, my frame is sitting, patiently waiting for the next step.

I'll be glad when I can ride the Harley there again, as I'm getting sick of the drive.
